weeping and waiting

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.  Is. 40:31

The women had been faithful.  They had stood at the foot of the cross.  They had watched Him die.  They had heard His final words.  They had seen the Roman soldier drive the spear in His side.  They had watched Joseph and Nicodemus take his lifeless body from the cross, wrap it in linen cloth and carry it to Joseph’s new tomb.  They had seen the great stone rolled to the door of the tomb.

Now these women waited.  They waited for the Sabbath to pass that they might return to the grave and anoint His body with spices as was the custom.  They waited to breathe again, as all their hopes and dreams had died with Him.  They waited and dreaded returning to a world without Jesus.

Saturday was a day for weeping and waiting.
