Feeding them bread

There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? John 6:9

The crowd was huge.  5000 men, not counting women and children.  And they were hungry.  All the food the disciples could find was a boy’s packed lunch - five loaves of bread and two small fish.  But what were they among so many?  Jesus took the boy’s offering, gave thanks and distributed the bread and fishes to the disciples who distributed them among the people.  When all had eaten, the disciples filled 12 baskets with the left overs.

We live in a world filled with hungry people.  The Church is called to feed them.  The task seems overwhelming and our resources limited.  But this passage teaches us little is much in His hands.

When we commit our talents and resources to the Lord, no matter how small they may be, He can use them to feed the hungry.

After all, He is the Bread of Life.

Encourage ourselves

David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. 1 Samuel 30:6

Things could not have been worse for David.  His family had been kidnapped. All his possessions had been taken.  His own men were so distraught they talked of killing him.  Yet, the Bible says David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.  How?  By remembering God’s faithfulness to him in the past and His promises for the future.

As a Christian we can encourage ourselves in the Lord our God.  We can remember what the Lord has done for us in the past and His promises for the future.   Just as David could remember how God delivered Goliath into his hands, we can remember those times God has delivered us.

Just as David trusted in God’s promise he would be king, we can trust in God’s promise that He will never leave us or forsake us.

Dr. Fried's Special Message about the Hope of Israel National Conference.   www.Rapture.Today.com *** PLEASE SHARE THIS AS MANY AS YOU CAN ***

Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. see Romans 10

Please pray for peace in Jerusalem.

Not alone

Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal. 1 Kings: 19:18

Elijah had stood boldly for the Lord on Mount Carmel and God had answered by fire.  When his life was threatened by Queen Jezebel, he had ran like a scared rabbit into the wilderness.  Now, he sat in a cave, alone, depressed and believing he was the only person left who loved the Lord.  The Lord passed by and told him to get up and go, there were seven thousand others who remained faithful.

Have you ever felt alone?  Satan loves to isolate us from other believers.  He tempted Eve when she was alone.   Feeling alone, Elijah had given up.  But God reminded Elijah we are never alone.  God will place friends in our lives who will strengthen our faith.  God will never leave us without the witness of His presence and the presence of other believers.

Get up and go, you are not alone!

A reminder, what you are reading

Hello blog followers,

I felt it was necessary to give credit where credit is due.  Just a reminder, as many or a majority of the blog posts on this blog, "Preachers of our faith" are a collections of sermons and daily thoughts from my preacher friends.  I live in the south of the USA, in where it used to be called "the bible belt" where there used to be a church on every corner, well almost every corner, and protestant.  So I have many preacher friends giving out great gospel messages.

So you will see many of their writings and some of mine, But all blog post will end with their initials, (REV DS or Rev DB) All are ordained ministers, pastors, missionaries and preachers.

So please enjoy, and learn, as I said in the blog description, where you can glean, gain and grow in the Lord, but notice the initials at the end of the post. Also pray for them.

May God bless you, as we are laborers together as we publish the gospel of the Lord Jesus!!

Abraham's Faith

As my preacher buddy would, say here are some of my Sunday afternoon motel musings:
Abraham's Faith
Abraham's life was a life of faith.
The demand for Abrahams faith is the same demands for everyone's  faith.
Many want a life of faith, but fear and fret and even refuse the demands for this blessed life.
The Scriptures speak in regards to his faith of two outstanding demands:
1. Looking for a city, that hath foundations, whose builder is God without knowing where he was going.
(Can you imagine how his wife must of felt When she got the news of this endeavor?)

2. He's to be a papa when he was past age for being a papa.
Hebrews 11:3 Faith is the substance of things hope for the evidence of things not seen.
The two elements that arises here,
1.Substance of things hope for
2.Evidence of things not seen
Or The evidence of things hope for, is not seen!
Notice some things that stand out:
1. There were Promises:
I have a place for you That hath foundations!
I will bless you with a son in your old age Not just a son but a son whose seed will be as the stars of the Heavens and the sands by the sea.
2. There was the Promiser:
Promises are only as good as the one who promises.
He leaned more on the Promiser than he did the promises..
Faith in God is not believing God can do anything, but that he is God whether he does or doesn't !
God has no fear, and he expects you to have no fear when your hand is in his.
3. Problems: Any demand for faith will be met with problems; circumstances To side track us.
Family problems,
If it wasn't Lot it was,
Sara and Hagar
Phisical Problems - His own body
Work place problem, his herdmen against Lots herdmen
4. Possibilities:
A life of Faith is Possible.

Easter

As we come into the Easter Season and as we enter Holy Week and as I view the trending topics of the day on social media, I notice that "WOW, we have another season where  we have to say "Jesus is the reason for the Season !!"  Well, I realize this not ground breaking news, but does it shows what has been embedded into the fabric our country and society.  So I would like to get my Christian "dig" in here, while the season is on many hearts and minds.

Although, I realize you may have your anti-types of Easter.  Antitype meaning "instead of", of course. Where the Easter bunny, Easter eggs and candy is the "instead of ".   You can compare it to Christmas, with Santa Clause, Frosty the snowman and toys is the "instead of".  There seems to be that Secular and the spiritual side of the seasons.  And I guess, we should and could work in harmony for the seasons, for the kids and for a good testimony for God's people.

But with the given activity and word trends on social media, one would have to agree that once again and just like Christmas, the Easter Season is another season where Jesus, is the reason for the season.

But really friend, to enjoy the season that we are in, Easter, you must be born again.  We will celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ as He arose from the tomb and it would a great time to be saved.  Seeing that He, Jesus, ever lives to intercede for us, at the right hand of the Father. So call on Him today, for whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

weeping and waiting

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.  Is. 40:31

The women had been faithful.  They had stood at the foot of the cross.  They had watched Him die.  They had heard His final words.  They had seen the Roman soldier drive the spear in His side.  They had watched Joseph and Nicodemus take his lifeless body from the cross, wrap it in linen cloth and carry it to Joseph’s new tomb.  They had seen the great stone rolled to the door of the tomb.

Now these women waited.  They waited for the Sabbath to pass that they might return to the grave and anoint His body with spices as was the custom.  They waited to breathe again, as all their hopes and dreams had died with Him.  They waited and dreaded returning to a world without Jesus.

Saturday was a day for weeping and waiting.

A Good Friday

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Cor. 5:21

The penalty of sin is death.  All have sinned.  Every last descendant of Adam’s race has missed the mark.  Except one.  Conceived of the Holy Spirit, Jesus had been tempted in every respect as we are and yet without sin.  The time had come.  If man is to be saved, Jesus must die.  It is the final act of a plan made in heaven before the world began.

The scene is horrific.  The cross is cruel.  There is blood.  There is pain.  There is sin - yours and mine.  In those terrible moments Jesus took upon himself all our sins.  He exchanged His righteousness for our sins.  He traded places with us.  He died that we might live.  It was the worse of all days and the most glorious of all days.  God’s love had triumphed!  Salvation had come!

Because of the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross we remember today as Good Friday!

Revealing a hidden truth

Revealing a hidden truth

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. 1Tim3:16

God was manifested (revealed) in the flesh and this manifestation came through the Lord Jesus, His son. God in the flesh is Jesus Christ. As the mana fell from heaven, literally came down from heaven in the wilderness journey for Israel, so too did the son of God come down from heaven.  Jesus said ‘I am that bread”.

So God was manifested in the flesh at the BIRTH of Christ Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.  Matt1:23

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.  Luke 1:30-31
God was seen in the fire at the burning bush with Moses in Genesis chapter 3. Also God was seen in the smoke and fire in the tabernacle that Israel built in the wilderness journey.  It was in The Holy place which was in the middle of the tabernacle. But now, He is come in the flesh of a man through the Lord Jesus Christ.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John1:14
So God was manifested in the flesh at Christ’s birth, but also Christ’s baptism.  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.  John 1:29

And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. John 1:34
God was manifested in the flesh by His son Jesus Christ.  John the Baptist reveals this at Christ’s baptism and declares this to Israel and to the world. PTL!!

So not only was God’s manifestation is seen in Christ’s birth and baptism but also seen when Christ bear the cross, at His crucifixion.

Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.  Matt27:54

Jesus died on the cross. He was seen there on that hill as He was hung on the cross between heaven and earth.  He could have called ten thousand angels but He opened not His mouth.

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:  John 1:10-12

God bless you today my friend, perhaps you will see the mystery or Hidden Truth!!

troubled Hearts

Let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in God, believe also in me.  John 14:1

As Jesus talked with His disciples,  He knew this night He would be betrayed and tomorrow He would be crucified.   He knew the confusion and sorrow the upcoming events would cause them.  Jesus loved His disciples and wanted to reassure them that no matter how things appeared they could trust in Him.  He knew the resurrection was coming.

The uncertainty of life can lead to worry and anxiety.  Jesus loves us and He does not want our hearts to be troubled.   I may not know what tomorrow holds, but I know who holds tomorrow.  We can believe in the promises of God and find comfort.

We can believe in the words of Jesus and know the resurrection is coming!

When God is in the Midst of it

When God is in the Midst of it

Psalms 46

I love the Book of Psalms. I believe this would be one of my favorites.
Words fail me to tell of the strength these eleven verses have been to my heart. I have stood by the bed side of many of Gods saints and read these verses with confidence. I have watched tears give way to joy, by knowing there is a source that's greater than the situation they are in.

Simply by seeing that God is in the midst.

An Unshakable Courage: verses 1-3
I. The Source of Courage: GOD IS

II. The Sign of Courage: we will not fear
 a. Our World is rearranged: 2a
 b. Our World is stormy : 2b
 c. Our World is shaken
In essence The writer is stating though life is no longer like it once was, God has this and I will not fear. He is my refuge, my run to PLACE:
An Incomparable City: verses 4 - 5
When you look at the city of God there is none like her.
Happy Place - 4a make glad
Holy Place - 4b
HIS Place - 5

III. Unmistakable Cause: verses 6-9
He Uttered His Voice: 6-7 he is with us and has something to say, we should listen
He Displays His works: 8 you can see whee he's been and what he has done
He Delivers peace: 9   He can handle the wars that rage. The wars without and the wars within.

IV.  Treasurable Conclusion: 10 - 11 Something that will last and never lose it value. So simple it would change us if we could just get a hold of it.
Be still -
Know
I will be exalted
The Lord is with us

Death to Life

Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone; but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.  John 12:24

Jesus knew why He had come.  Only through His death could He bring life.  All of His wonderful words, His mighty miracles and His acts of kindness could not take away the sin of the world.  Only His sacrificial death could accomplish that.  So He reminds His disciples that a kernel of wheat lies dormant until it is planted.  Only when the seed dies, can it bring forth new life.

The same principle applies in our lives as well.  To the extent we live only to please ourselves, we will remain dormant and unfruitful.  Like a seed, we were created by God to bear fruit.  This only happens as we die to our selfish desires and surrender ourselves to Christ.

As Paul wrote in Romans 8:5: “For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.”

The Cross

Just a brief devotion today regarding Calvary and the price paid for our sins.

I'm thankful that I learn early in the ministry that Calvary was the central theme and focus in the Bible. It's been said everything in the Old Testament pointed to the Cross, while everything from the cross points back to this grand event. So much is seen in the scriptures concerning the cross.

We have Pictures of the Cross:
Paul talked of the Preaching of the Cross:

We can find Provisions from the Cross:
It must be said the efficacy of the event was not in the timbers and wood that constructed the cross, but in HIM who hung as sacrifice for all on the cross.

Some quick thoughts about this place.
It was a Demented Place where humanity was at it very worse:
It was a Divine Place: where God was at His very Best:
It was a Demonstrating Place: where love was at its very Best:

A simple task

And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them. Matt. 21:6
Jesus entered Jerusalem to the shouts and praise of the multitude. Riding in on a borrowed donkey, He fulfilled the prophecy made by Zechariah some 500 years earlier. It is a day still marked on our calendars as Palm Sunday. The obedience of two disciples played a key role. Jesus needed a donkey and he sent two disciples to borrow one.
God’s purposes are accomplished through our obedience; most often, it is not through some “great” thing we see others do, but in the simple things God may ask of us. Fetching a donkey is a pretty mundane task. Yet the obedience of the disciples allowed Jesus to fulfill God’s purpose on that day.

What simple thing might God ask of us today??

Call unto me

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. Jer. 33:3

Jeremiah could see what was going on around him and it was not good.  Jerusalem had been destroyed.  The people of God taken captive.  The judgment of God had come.  That was what Jeremiah could see.  But God saw the temple rebuilt.  He saw the captives return.  He saw Jesus bringing salvation to the world.  He wanted Jeremiah to know the voice of joy would once again sound in Jerusalem.

This verse reminds us that no matter how bad things appear to us, God is at work.  If we will call upon the Lord, He will answer us.  God sees past the now and knows the great and mighty things He has in our future.  He wants to share with us a glimpse of the joy that will be.

No matter how dark the moment, call upon the Lord and rest in the hope He provides.

Your life's testimony

Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage forever; for they are the rejoicing of my heart.  Psa. 119:111

When a father dies his children are his natural heirs.  Absent a will to the contrary, his children will receive what he leaves behind.   We often think of an inheritance as money or property.  But the most important thing a father can leave his children is a good testimony.

Today, I remember my father.  He died on April 5, 1969.  Daddy was very sick and in bed.  That morning he listened to the preaching on WHNE 1170.  Uncle Broughton came in just as the service ended.   I remember daddy looking up with tears in his eyes and telling Broughton, “I love the gospel.”  My father was not a wealthy man in natural things, but I rejoice in the testimony he left behind.

taste and see

O taste and see that the Lord is good.  Psalm  34:8

Sandra’s love of cooking has been a great blessing to me.  It has never been her intent to prepare a bland and tasteless dish.  To ensure that her food is tasty and wholesome, she uses only the best ingredients and she mixes these ingredients according to a tried and true recipe.

God wants our life to be blessed and filled with joy and purpose.   In following Jesus and the principles of God’s Word, we have the ingredients that can give life meaning and joy.  The Bible provides us a recipe for living a healthy, happy life.  The most important ingredient is having Christ in our heart.  He is the spice of life that makes life worth living.

Christ invites you to taste and see.

First prayer answered

"....they called upon the Lord, and he answered them." Psalms 99:6b

Do you remember the first time God answered a prayer for you?

I was about 12 years old and wanted a bicycle. I prayed for a bicycle and remembered something my Grandmother had prayed. I prayed, "If you give me a bicycle I'll use it for your glory." I didn't really know what that meant. But God heard and answered my prayer.

One day I rode my bike to Sunday School, about ten miles. As I walked up the steps I heard a man say, "If that boy can make it to Sunday School, (on a bike) then we have no excuse to miss".

Well, God got the glory and I'll never forget my first answered prayer.

Jesus is the way

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by me. John 14:6

Jesus’ statement to Thomas leaves no room for argument.  It is either the truth or it is not.  If true, it applies to all people, in all places, at all times.  It is the kind of statement many people hate.  It contradicts the current notion of tolerance – that there are many ways to God and one is just as good as another.

When the world tells us there are many ways to be saved, what they are really saying is that Jesus’ death on the cross was unnecessary.  If one could be saved apart from the blood of Christ, then why would Jesus have died?  While we have to be respectful to all people, we cannot compromise on who Jesus is and what He did on the cross.  By word and example we are to be witnesses to the truth.

That we might see

Unto many that were blind he gave sight. Luke 7:21

Jesus came that we might see.  That we might see ourselves and others as God would have us to.   That we might see the terrible consequences of sin and the great love and compassion God has for us.  That we might see the great need around us.

Jesus came to the Pharisee and rebuked his self-righteousness.  He came to the woman at the well and offered her living water.  He came to the hungry and offered him a seat at His table.  He came that we might see and by seeing we might humble ourselves, repent and turn to Him.  May our eyes be open to His great love for us.

The 220 life

Galatians 2:20 (KJV)
20  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

The real pathway to victory in the Christian life comes with our understanding of our position in, and our identification with Christ.

We must realize and reckon

When He died, I died in Him
When I was buried, I was buried in Him
When He arose, I arose in Him
When He ascended, I ascended in Him
When He sat down, I am seated in Him

Ephesians 2:6 (KJV)
6  And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

1 Corinthians 15:57 (KJV)
57  But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

O GLORIOUS THOUGHT!!!
